Every ounce of weight is equivalent to 1/64 inch thickness. The weight of leather is determined by the number of ounces that one square foot of leather weighs. For example, if a square foot of leather weighs four ounces, it is called 4 oz leather. 4 oz leather is approximately 1/16 inch or 1.6 mm thick.
