the varying circumferences of all the Honda clutch & brake
levers, forks, and shocks; the length of floorboards; and the outside
diameters of frame and engine guard tubing. These measurements have
been captured in the form of templates that we use to prepare and
cut our leather motorcycle accessories.
When you order, you tell us which model you have, and you tell
us the year your Honda was made. We pull the template for your
bike and cut the leather accordingly. This process is one of the

Why Full-Grain Leather?
Chilhowee leather motorcycle accessories are made from full-grain
hides that are durable and naturally water-resistant. Just as the
grain, texture, and markings of wood should reveal the nature of
the tree from which it came, leather should display the natural
markings and grain characteristics of the animal from which it was
taken. Except for saddlebags and some tool bags, the only hides
we'll use are ones where the full natural grain is retained.
And we use only the best quality hides. The natural grain variations
are exposed and you can actually see the "fat wrinkles".
The feel or "hand" is buttery soft, supple and natural
to the touch. Our motorcycle accessories look natural, smell good,
and have a soft hand.
Which Hide is Right for Which Honda Accessory?
Each of these hides have a different feel, thickness, and grain
characteristic. When selecting the best kind of hide for our Harley
motorcycle accessories, Chilhowee considers the various characteristics
to make sure the hide is appropriate for the particular use and
placement. Deer is the thinnest hide (2.5 oz), Elk hide is nearly
twice as thick (4 oz) and very plush, and Buffalo is a very thick,
rugged, and durable hide with impressive graining characteristics.
Bull hide is very similar to Buffalo, in terms of thickness and
feel, but has smoother grain characteristics. Our diamond tanned,
oil dyed Cowhide is the choice for most fringe applications due
to its superior water and oil resistance and excellent wear properties.
For accessories where the only important thing is softness, you
can choose Deer or Elk. For accessories where the most important
thing is looks and ruggedness, we use Buffalo or Bull hide.
What if you have a choice?
Many of our Honda accessories come in two or sometimes all three flavors.
We let you decide whether you'll sacrifice a little ruggedness for
the sake of feel. Or whether you'll sacrifice feel in order to make
a statement. No other leather manufacturer offers as much freedom of
choice in a Honda accessory.
